The Strength of the Pack

16×20 oil on canvas. I love wolves….at least from afar. I do worry about what they are doing to the deer, elk, and moose populations in North America. But I have always been a little obsessed with their beauty, intelligence, and pack dynamics. I hoped to include a small piece of each of these in this painting. When I started planning this painting I was planning on doing a gray and white color scheme, with the trees, sky and shadowing all a variation of these. But as I searched for reference photos, I just loved all the glowing sunsets with the unique colors it turned the snow. The tricky part was that I did use a reference photo that was grays for my trees, it had a gray over cast sky and there were no shadows. I had to figure out where my shadows should be and what colors to make the snow. I realized I needed to incorporate the intense colors of the sky onto the snow. If you look close you can see there is really no plain white in the whole painting. Everything has a blue, pink or orange/yellow tint. I love how it all came together. Can you find the one hidden thing in this painting? This painting is gallery wrapped and painted on the sides of the canvas. However; it can be custom framed for no additional charge. Also all original paintings ship for free.
