30×40 oil on canvas. I grew up in Eastern Utah. Many of our family trips were to the geological wonders all around that beautiful state. When I saw this place it fit perfectly with my vision for where desert bighorn sheep would love and it brought nostalgia for home. The funny thing is that this place isn’t in Utah, it is Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Nevada. It just needed to be painted. The clouds were an adventure figuring out. I wanted the rocks to still have the deep shadows so I could only do clouds in part of the painting. I also wanted lightning and rain. I wanted it to appear as if the storm was rolling in but not all one giant blob of storm. In the end it all worked out beautifully! This painting only has one hidden thing and it is probably the hardest hidden thing to find in all my paintings. So good luck! Hopefully you can find it. Hint: it’s an animal.
